Overview

Power users want to get where they're going with as little effort as possible and as fast as they can. As fast as GUI navigation can be, terminals are the holy grail of rapid movement within systems. ul.timate.info now features a command line terminal-like interface to enable users to fly through their interactions on sites like Facebook, Twitter, MySpace, FriendFeed, Google, Yahoo and Bing. While it's not everything and the kitchen sink, ther terminal has been designed to streamline the activities people use most from the sites featured within ul.timate.info. View friends, send messages, update status, etc. It just makes sense, no? The terminal will stay with you, on any page as long as you want it to ridealong at the bottom of the browser window.

What's really neat about the Terminal is it also has things like arrow up and down history naviation and auto-complete names from your Twitter and Facebook accounts. So now you can enter commands like 'v Jas' and then press TAB and it'll show you all of the names starting with 'jas' or auto complete if there's only one. To accept hit ENTER and the v command will take you to that friend's Facebook or Twitter page.

Why?

After creating v0.3.1, I began wanting to use Facebook more rapidly than via right-click context menus alone. Since most of my day-to-day work involves the Terminal, and it's something that's unbelieveably fast and convenient, I chose to integrate that metaphor as an additional input mode for what is now ul.timate.info.

How to Use

To open the Terminal:

  1. Right-Click Menu
    • Right-click (CTRL-click on a MacBook Pro without-a-mouse) anywhere on the web page you're currently viewing
    • The context menu will appear
    • Scroll down and select "View Terminal"
    • The Terminal window will appear
  2. Quick Keys
    • Hold down the SHIFT and CMD keys and press the ENTER or RETURN key
    • The Terminal window will appear (do the same to make it disappear)
  3. On Facebook
    • In the Application Dock on the bottom toolbar, ul.timate.info will add a Terminal icon to the dock.
    • Click the icon
    • The Terminal window will appear
To close the Terminal:
